Gravesites
There are no new gravesites for sale.
We continue to provide services for people with existing gravesites.
Owners of existing gravesites
Burial bookings need to be made through your funeral director.
The holder of the Right of Interment must authorise any use of the grave.
Gravesites can accommodate up to 3 burials (depending on ground conditions), with the first burial being at 9 feet deep.
In addition, up to 6 sets of ashes can be interred in each gravesite.
Fees
Fees apply to existing gravesites, for renovation works and new memorials.

- fulfill Council’s ongoing responsibility to maintain the cemetery.
Shaping Ferntree Gully Cemetery
Council has formed an engagement group for Ferntree Gully Cemetery. The Ferntree Gully Cemetery Community Consultative Group will help shape the future direction for the cemetery.
We are inviting community members to join the Consultative Group to help guide and inform Council’s decisions for the cemetery.
Recruitment is open and community members are welcome to join or leave at any time.
Members can choose when and how much they would like to participate in engagement opportunities.

History
The Ferntree Gully Cemetery was established in 1873 when 5 acres of Crown land were reserved as the site for a cemetery.
Many pioneers of the district are buried in the cemetery including the well-known families of Dobson, Baird and Friberg. You may recognise these names as ward names in our municipality.
The cemetery also has the honour of being the last resting place of renowned landscape artist Sir Arthur Streeton.
Knox City Council took over responsibility as Trustee of the cemetery in July 1982.
In 1984 the Governor in Council declared the Ferntree Gully Cemetery closed for the sale of new graves.
In 1999, the Council appointed the Ferntree Gully Cemetery Trust Committee to oversee the management of the cemetery.
This committee was sunsetted in 2017.
