VARMS relocation

The Victorian Association of Radio Model Soaring (VARMS) facilities was relocated to the Rowville Recreation Reserve.

About VARMS

The Victorian Association of Radio Model Soaring (VARMS) is a group for aero-modellers in Knox who build and fly radio-controlled gliders.

VARMS was previously based at the Knox Regional Sports Park, located adjacent to the State Basketball Centre.

The State Basketball Centre redevelopment impacted the available space required by VARMS to fly model aircraft.

A new VARMS clubhouse and runway was constructed within the Rowville Recreation Reserve.

New facility

The new VARMS facility at Rowville Recreation Reserve includes:

  • a clear fly zone area
  • a runway for flying model aircraft
  • a suitable buffer zone from existing buildings
  • a clubhouse
  • car park area
  • a new left turn entry lane from Stud Road.

Budget

The total project budget for the relocation of VARMS is $1.5 million.

Timings

Construction commenced in January 2022 and was completed in May 2023.
