- Mayor Acknowledges The Passing of Queen Elizabeth II
Knox City Council Mayor, Cr Susan Laukens, has released a statement acknowledging the passing of Queen Elizabeth II:
Today, the City of Knox joins with the rest of Australia and the Commonwealth in mourning the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who was a remarkable woman.
As our head of state, she has provided great continuity and stability for Australia for 70 years. It is this stability that the City of Knox is built on.
I understand that within our Knox community there are many different views on the Monarchy. But regardless of each of our political views, today is about honouring a woman who lived a life of selfless service.
Queen Elizabeth II had a strong love for Australia and she visited Victoria 11 times. The tributes we have seen since her passing have shown she was well respected and that many Australians are feeling her loss deeply.
Earlier this year two community groups in Knox, First Friends of Dandenong Creek and the Rotary Club of Rowville Lysterfield, received Federal Government grants to plant trees for the Queen’s Jubilee. This year and next year trees are being planted along Corhanwarrabul and Dandenong Creeks in Knoxfield. The planting of these trees will serve as a lasting tribute to The Queen and will leave a legacy for Knox residents to enjoy into the future.
May Queen Elizabeth rest in peace.
