Knox is participating in two epic citizen science events this September, as part of Biodiversity Month 2024.
The Great Southern BioBlitz
Friday 20 – Monday 23 September 2024
The Great Southern BioBlitz is an international biodiversity event held in Spring, where participants can help to record living species within areas across the Southern Hemisphere.
To participate in the 4-day challenge, all you need to do is snap a photo or record the sound of any wild plant or animal and upload it to the iNaturalist app. Make sure to include the location details too. For more information watch this video made by our friends at Yarra Ranges Shire Council.
This challenge provides a fun and collaborative opportunity to participate in friendly competition and learn about local biodiversity.

Greater Melbourne Biodiversity Blitz
Sunday 1 - Monday 30 September 2024
A Biodiversity Blitz refers to a period of intense nature observation and recording. It is a rewarding opportunity to conduct research and share information about our native species and reserves.
For the whole month of September, any observation of a plant, animal, or fungi made in Knox and recorded via the iNaturalist app will contribute to the Knox BioBlitz 2024.
During September and as part of Biodiversity Month 2024, we are partnering with several of our neighbouring councils to host the 2024 Biodiversity Blitz. Join the Knox project online at Knox BioBlitz 2024 and monitor your progress by tapping into the BioBlitz leaderboard. BioBlitz leaderboard.
