Knox has a strong history with public art, including with past programs such as the Knox Placemakers Projects (1987 – 2007), where community focussed artworks were created across the municipality. This program formed a solid foundation for the continuation and development of the Knox Public Art Collection.
More recently, Public Art developments across Knox are larger in scale, iconic and often associated with major redevelopment projects, as well as socially engaged arts that support cultural development and neighbourhood renewal.
Public Art can include temporary and permanent installations as well as a variety of materials and dimensions. Public art at Knox is generally site specific and responsive to the local environment, community or future vision of the location in which the work is placed.
Council's Public Art Collection is governed by the Knox Public Art Policy.
