- Join the Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee
Knox City Council invites individuals from all cultural backgrounds to apply for the Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee (KMAC). The Committee plays an important role in advising the Council on matters related to cultural diversity, inclusion and community engagement.
Why join?
As a member of KMAC, you’ll be part of a dynamic group that ensures the voices of our multicultural communities are heard and represented in decisions that shape the future of the Knox. More specifically, you will:
- Provide advice and recommendations to Council on multicultural issues in and beyond Knox
- Identify issues and opportunities affecting people from multicultural backgrounds in and beyond Knox
- Assist Council in the development of policy, strategy and advocacy initiatives related to the issues and opportunities identified
- Advocate for increased awareness and understanding of issues and opportunities affecting multicultural communities within Knox
- Assist Council with its communication, consultation and engagement with multicultural communities through two-way information exchange, from Council to communities and from communities to Council
- Assist Council to promote and celebrate the benefits of cultural diversity in Knox and to build connections between different cultural groups within the Knox community
- Assist Council to monitor the implementation of the Knox Connection, Access, Respect, Equality and Safety Strategy 2022–27.
Who we are looking for
To nominate for the KMAC, you must be:
- over 18 years old
- have a strong connection to and understanding of cultural diversity within Knox
- can contribute to discussions, provide advice, and develop strategies to improve multicultural policies and programs
- can support Council to increase community engagement with Multicultural Community groups in Knox
- are willing to represent and advocate for multicultural communities and multicultural issues.
The Committee includes up to 14 representatives, including Councillors, Council officers and community members from culturally diverse communities and professionals who work in multicultural services. The Committee meets 6 times per year over 2 years.

Knox is a home to a vibrant and growing multicultural community, and the Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the needs, aspirations, and contributions of the diverse groups are reflected in Council policies and initiatives. This is an opportunity to actively participate in shaping an inclusive and harmonious city where all cultures are celebrated.
