- Protecting our green areas and significant spaces
We are hosting a virtual session to inform you of our draft Green Areas and Rural Strategy and the opportunities for consultation. The draft Strategy sets out the land use directions for our green areas and significant landscapes over the next 20 years.
You are invited to register for the session which will take place at 6.30pm on Thursday 25 November. Our team will be present to answer any questions you have. The discussion will be facilitated by independent consultants from Conversation Co.
In Knox, we have extensive green wedge land that is important for agriculture, rural living, recreation, biodiversity and tourism. These areas are highly valued by our community and we need to protect them for the future.
The draft strategy sets out values to protect and land usage directions for the next 20 years. It covers the following precincts:
- The Basin Rural Landscape
- Lysterfield Valley and Hills
- Lysterfield Quarries and surrounds
- Dandenong Creek Valley
- Healesville Freeway Reservation and surrounds.
Each precinct presents unique opportunities for future enhancements. The draft strategy proposes actions to make improvements in each precinct including habitat restoration, wildlife connectivity, protecting view lines and cultural heritage, supporting agriculture and tourism, walking and cycling connectivity and improved access to parklands.
If you can’t join us for the online session, we’ve got 2 more engagement sessions planned on Saturday 4 December:
- 10 am to 12 pm – Meet us at the pop-up session at Tim Neville Arboretum playground
- 2 pm to 3 pm – Complete a survey at The Basin Triangle playground.
Alternatively, find out more about the draft strategy and complete an online submission on our Have your say website. Opportunities to provide feedback close on 23 December 2021.
