16 Days of Activism

As part of the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, we are calling on our community to help change the story.

The international campaign, which runs from 25 November until 10 December, is locally supported by Respect Victoria and calls for an end to violence against women and girls.

Violence against women is preventable and respect begins with a conversation. To encourage discussion within our community, we are hosting two events.

Former footballer and family violence activist, Phil Cleary, is speaking at an event this Wednesday 29 November at 7pm. Phil will share how family violence resulted in the loss of his sister, who was fatally stabbed by her former partner in 1987. Spots for the event are still available here.

Specialist family violence service for women and children, ‘FVREE’, will be hosting an event on Thursday 7 December at 6:30pm for young adults (15 - 25 years) to discuss the topics of respect, equality and relationships. More details here.

In Knox, reported incidents of family violence have increased by 25% over the past five years (2017 – 2022).

We all deserve to be safe, equal and respected. We encourage community members to attend our events in a bid to change the culture that drives violence against women.

If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, support is available: knox.vic.gov.au/familyviolence. If you are in immediate danger, call triple zero (000).
