- Bin Collections Change Next Week
From 1 July, we will start collecting your food and garden bin, with most of the stinky stuff, weekly. Your household rubbish bin (with the yellow lid) will be collected fortnightly on the same week that we previously picked up your red lidded green waste bin. There will be no change to your collection day. Remember to put your bins out by 6am on your bin day.
Rubbish collection changes
Weekly: green lid food and garden bin
Fortnightly: yellow lid rubbish bin and bundled green waste (same week) and blue lid recycling bin (alternate week)
Find my bin day
To check which bin to put out once the new collection changes begin, use our new online Find my bin day tool. Search your address to find out your bin collection dates. Or check the rubbish and recycling calendar in the information pack with your new kitchen caddy.
Tips for minimising your rubbish
- Put all food leftovers in the food and garden bin
- Check what can go in the recycling bin
- Shop with a list so you buy only what you need and check your pantry before going to the supermarket
- Shop local, not online to reduce and avoid plastic packaging
- Take reusable bags to the supermarket
- Instead of cling wrap, use reusable food covers or containers.
If your household has additional waste needs
You can apply for an extra 120L rubbish bin at no cost, if your household has:
- two or more children in disposable nappies or,
- person(s) with chronic illness, disability or medical condition with additional waste needs.
To apply online, visit knox.vic.gov.au/FoodAndGarden
How to deal with pet poo
Pet poo cannot go into the food and garden bin. It should be wrapped in a plastic bag and placed into the household rubbish bin (yellow lid). There are pet poo composting options for your garden available. For details, visit knox.vic.gov.au/Composting
