How to safely dispose of RATs

When you are ready to dispose of your Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), place the test and any other contaminated material such as swabs, fluids, rubber gloves and bottles into a plastic bag; seal the bag and place into a second bag such as bin liner, then seal that bag too.

Dispose of the double-bagged rapid antigen test in your general household waste bin. Used RATs may only be disposed of in general waste bin, they must not be placed in recycling bins.

Do not tip any liquids down drains or flush down the toilet.

The good news is the cardboard packaging and instructions can be recycled along with other paper products in your recycling bin.

Visit our recycling bin collection webpage for information about what goes into your recycling bin.
