Get involved in the Aussie Bird Count!
In Knox, we are lucky to share our bushland reserves, street trees, and backyards with a diverse community of birds. The annual Aussie Bird Count is your opportunity to get involved with some citizen science by taking photos of birds in your backyard, local park or bushland reserve.
Last year 450 people observed a total of 28,395 individual birds in just one week! These birds covered 109 different species.
The data collected during the Bird Count contributes to the ongoing monitoring of bird populations and their distribution in Knox. This data is particularly important in our ever-changing environment to measure the impacts of climate change, urbanization, and habitats.
Join the Aussie Bird Count between Monday 17 October – Sunday 23 October. Taking part is easy! All you need to do is spend 20 minutes outdoors and count the number of birds you see.
Then upload your observations to Aussie Bird Count or app by BirdLife Australia and use their inbuilt bird finder tool to identify different species.
