- Knox Regional Netball Centre Indoor Courts Open
On Thursday 16 February 2023, the doors of the Knox Regional Netball Centre were officially opened with the highly anticipated building occupancy for Stage 1 received.
The project commenced construction in November 2021 faced a number of pandemic-related delays, but the end result has been worth the wait. With the hot weather in full swing, players rejoiced on Friday 17 February in the climate control stadium.
Stage 1 indoor facility features:
- two additional indoor air conditioned courts
- new change rooms and a function room
- an observation deck
- extra 180 parking bays including accessible parking spaces
- improved pedestrian walkways and landscaping
- 4 star energy initiatives including solar power, recycled materials, natural light and rain water retention systems.
- additional office space, first aid room and multi-purpose function room
There is no rest for all involved in this project with sights focused on delivery of Stage 2 in July 2023.
Demolition to the internal areas of the existing building commenced on Monday 20 February. Completion of Stage 2 will see upgrades to the existing stadium including improved accessibility, storage and public art installation.
This investment in our Netball community would not have been possible without the support of the Australian Government and Victorian Government, with $4M contribution through the Community Development Grant, $5M contribution through the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, along with an additional $6.6M Council Contribution.
