- Honour Everyday Heroes
We are inviting our community to nominate everyday heroes for the Knox Australia Day Awards 2022.
The Awards provide an opportunity to thank, and recognise the outstanding contribution individuals have made in our community. By nominating them for an Award, you are giving these amazing people the recognition they deserve, and sharing their inspiring story with our community.
In the past year, we have seen community members supporting our community, reaching out to help those in need, volunteering at schools or community clubs, and preserving our environment.
Everyday heroes are all around us. It could be a family member, a neighbour, a healthcare worker, a friend, or a colleague.
Christine Ellis, our 2021 Citizen of the Year recipient, has been an active member of the Lions Club Branch of Knox and Lions Club of Wantirna for more than 22 years. She was honoured for her commitment and service to the local community. During COVID-19, Christine made and sold over 600 face masks, raising $3,000 for the Lions Club.
“Having lived in the City of Knox for over 45 years, I feel very privileged to serve the people of Knox,” says Christine.
“My satisfaction is gained by helping those in need, or not as fortunate as myself.”
Nominations are open for six Award categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Elder Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Local Hero
- Sustainability Leadership (previously known as the Environmentalist of the Year)
- Volunteer of the Year
This year, to better recognise people who have contributed to sustainability outcomes in Knox, we renamed the Environmentalist of the Year category to Sustainability Leadership, and broadened the selection criteria.
Nominations can be made by completing the online form at by 22 November 2022.
Further information about the Awards, including eligibility, Award ceremony and past recipients is available on our Australia Day Awards webpage.
