Young people from Knox show their Pride

On Sunday, over 50 people from Knox young LGBTIQ+ groups and Knox City Council staff joined the annual Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda.

Knox Mayor, Cr Marcia Timmers-Leitch attended the March, along with Deputy Mayor, Cr Jude Dwight.

Cr Timmers-Leitch said she was honoured to march with the young people of Knox and the Knox Youth Services and Council staff.

“As Mayor, I believe that creating safe and inclusive places for all our people is key to empowering our community to thrive. The atmosphere at Pride was vibrant and joyous. I was delighted to see so many other local councils and service organisations out in force and standing proud.”

Knox City Council has 5 groups for LGBTIQ+ young people in Knox between the ages of 11 and 25 years, as well as a group for parents and carers of LGBTIQ+ children and young people. Council is also undertaking a series of initiative to ensure our services and culture are inclusive.

“I am proud of the work that Council and our youth team are doing to support our young people, particularly those that identify as LGBTIQ+ and their families,” Cr Timmers-Leitch said.

More information is available for LGBTIQ+ people and their families. Find out more about:
