Melbourne husband and wife duo Mark and Joanne Caligiuri bring to life country music’s most famous couple, Johnny Cash and June Carter, as part of this year’s stellar line-up at Knox Community Arts Centre.
Council’s 2024 program showcases a diverse mix of professional daytime and evening performances, including comedy, music, cabaret and school holiday shows.
Partnerships with local community groups once again bring a mix of quality homegrown theatre, musical productions and creative workshops, offering something for everyone.
Joanne says the duo’s real life romance adds chemistry to their show, Get Rhythm — The Johnny Cash & June Carter Tribute, featuring hits like Ring of Fire, I Walk the Line, Jackson and Folsom Prison Blues.
"It just can’t help but do that because we are married and we’ve been together for a very long time," she says. "We both love what we do. For us, it’s fun and that definitely comes across. One of the things we are told after every show is, ‘Wow, you guys are so connected’."
Mark says the show has wide appeal.
"We get all different cultures and age groups coming," he says. "I see younger and younger generations coming to our shows and they know the words to every song.
"What hits me is the change that it makes to people when we’re singing and you see their faces light up. The audience is part of the show, we get everyone involved. We like everyone to feel part of the journey."
Other program highlights include the stand-up comedy, school holiday feature shows and artists paying tribute to ABBA, Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, The Eagles and Michael Buble.
