- Fire Danger Period Starts 23 December, Be Prepared
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has declared a Fire Danger Period for Knox commencing Monday 23 December.
The use of fire is restricted during the Fire Danger Period, including barbeques and campfires. Burning off is not permitted. Further information about restricted activities is available on the CFA website.
We do not issue Permits to Burn during the Fire Danger Period. If you have been issued a Permit to Burn, it will not be valid after 1am Monday 23 December.
Once the Fire Danger Period ends, you may apply for a new permit. More information is available on our Burning off webpage.
We encourage you to prepare your property for bushfire season to help protect your family and home.
Preparing for bushfire season
Ahead of the Fire Danger Period starting on 23 December, Council inspectors will be visiting over 2,800 properties and vacant lots in bushfire prone areas to make sure fire risks are being proactively managed.
Bushfires and grassfires do not only impact properties in rural areas. Fires can occur in urban areas where houses have grass, bushland or parkland surrounding their property.
Preparing for bushfire season will help you manage fire risk on your property and protect the safety of your family and pets.
Things you can do to prepare your property for bushfire season include:
- keep grass cut to less than 10cm
- keep gutters clear of leaf litter
- cut back branches overhanging buildings
- get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark
- store flammable liquids and woodpiles away from the house
It is recommended that you prepare an emergency plan and kit in case an emergency arises. This way, everyone in your family knows what actions to take to protect themselves.
For more advice on bushfire preparedness, view the Emergency preparedness booklet or visit the CFA website.
