- Food Relief For Residents
Knox residents will continue to be supported with food and emergency relief with 12 community groups sharing $79,000 in Council grants.
Knox Mayor Cr Susan Laukens said $79,000 has been allocated as a continuation of Council’s support for the community and business groups during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These grants aim to support local service providers who are based in Knox or provide services and support to Knox residents,” she said.
“These grants will help to provide food parcels, hot meals and other related emergency relief items to Knox residents as the community continues to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
“We know that these continue to be tough times for our community and we’re here to support local services helping Knox residents with the most basic items that everyone should be able to access, from fresh food and hot meals to hygiene items and prescription medication.
“Our partnership with these groups, with whom we have formed strong and trusted relationships, is an example of working together to deliver for our community.”
Recipients include Boronia Bayswater Community Church of Christ, Foothills Community Care and Knox Infolink Inc, which each received $10,000 to provide food for the community in hampers or meals. Temple Society Australia received $9,840 for meat and eggs and to assist with prescription medication.
Restore Community Care, St Vincent de Paul Society and St Paul's Anglican Church in Boronia were each awarded $6,480 for food parcels or hot meals.
Feed One Feed All Inc and Wellington Care Centre each received $5,000 for food assistance, including for residents with low mobility.
The Salvation Army received $4,000 for its weekly free market in the Ferntree Gully Salvation Army Centre.
Boronia Road Uniting Church’s food bank received $3,111 and Gayle’s Community Share Space (auspiced by Rowville Neighbourhood Learning Centre) received $2,600 for food parcels for Knox residents.
