- Impacts of Gambling In Knox
More than $78.3 million per year, or the equivalent to $614 per adult, is lost on gaming machines in Knox.
Around 36% of pokies revenue comes from people experiencing gambling problems.
Although gambling is a legal form of entertainment, it can have negative impacts on relationships, mental health and financial problems.
Council’s role in minimising harm from gambling includes being the responsible authority for assessing planning permit applications for electronic gaming machines in venues, supporting educational initiatives on the risks and impacts of gambling-related harms, facilitating access to non-gambling activities, and advocating for electronic gaming machine reform with state-wide partners.
We are developing a new policy to mitigate the negative impacts of electronic gaming.
Our new policy will pick up on emerging gambling issues, including increased online gambling and new gambling products.
We want to hear your experiences of gambling and its impacts to help inform our policy.
