- Represent The Knox Community
Lead our community and consider being a candidate in this year’s Council elections. Retiring councillors share why you should stand for Council. Register to attend an information session on 12 September.
Knox City Council needs strong and diverse leadership to represent our community. If you are ready to take on an influential leadership role, consider standing for Council this year.
Councils are the closest level of government to the community. This is a great opportunity to make a significant impact at a local level.
Retiring councillors from various councils are sharing their experience to encourage more people to stand in the 2024 Council elections.
Councillor Claudia Nguyen has served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the City of Yarra, and she said being a councillor has been a wonderful experience for her.
“You get to meet so many important community members in your area, whether it’s residents, business, industry bodies, and your most important roles is making sure that you’re making really good, important decisions on behalf of your community and representing their values.”
Councillor Rob Gersch from Hindmarsh Shire Council has been a councillor for 40 years, and he said it is one of the best things he has ever done.
“One of the main things that I’ve enjoyed so much is representing the community.
“If you’re prepared to have a go and you wish to represent your community, put your hand up.”
