We have made steady progress in the past 12 months to reduce our carbon emissions.

Compared to last financial year 2021-2022, we have reduced our emissions by 2.7% (225 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent) to 8,367 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.

A reduction of 225 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, is comparable to removing just over 100 passenger cars off the road for one year.

Since adopting the Climate Response Plan on 27 September 2021, we have been working towards achieving net zero emissions for Council by 2030.

Key achievements in 2022-2023 include:

Installed 7 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations; 3 for public use, and 4 for council fleet
Upgraded 500 streetlights to energy efficient LEDs on Boronia major roads
Planted 39,611 plants; 38,000 are indigenous plants, and 1,611 are trees
Installed 100kW of rooftop solar, and 76kWh of batteries across 5 Council sites
Invited businesses to join a renewable buying group, with 1 business signing the agreement
Added 4 My Energy and Water Saver kits for loan at libraries

Of the 55 actions outlined in the Climate Response Plan, we have completed 9 to date, and 26 actions are on schedule.

For 2023-24, key focuses include upgrading approximately 1,500 street lights to LEDs, and installing 4 more EV public charging stations.
