Our Australia Day Awards is a great opportunity to honour amazing, everyday people who have made an outstanding contribution to the Knox community.

About the Awards

Each year on Australia Day, we honour amazing, everyday people in the Knox Community. Recipients are selected from an outstanding field of nominees, each representing members of the community who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in Knox. 

Current award recipients

The 2023 Knox Australia Day Awards recipients were:

  • Citizen of the Year: Ricky Baldwin
  • Senior Citizen of the Year: Noel Addicoat
  • Volunteer of the Year: John Draffin
  • Sustainability Leadership Award: Rowan Jennion.

The 2022 Knox Australia Day Awards recipients were:

  • Citizen of the Year: Gayle Dye
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Sophie Ashdowne
  • Elder Citizen of the Year: Barb Edwards
  • Volunteer of the Year: Margaret Hawkes
  • Sustainability Leadership Award: Anthony Bigelow.

Categories

Young Citizen of the Year

For community members of Knox who are under 25 years of age on 26 January in the year the award is being presented and who have made an outstanding contribution to their community or school.

Senior Citizen of the Year

For community members of Knox aged 65 and over who have made a significant contribution to the community or are an inspirational role model.

Local Hero

For a community member who performed a heroic act or made a singular outstanding achievement in the Knox community.

Sustainability Leadership Award

For community members of Knox whose actions and ideas have had a significant positive impact on:

  • the protection, enhancement or awareness of Knox’s natural environment; and/or
  • environmental sustainability outcomes or initiatives within our City.
Volunteer of the Year

For community members of Knox who have given of themselves in a voluntary role.

Citizen of the Year

For community members of Knox who could be described as role models in the community, who have given selflessly of themselves to others.
