Community Safety, Health and Wellbeing Advisory Committee

The Knox Community Safety, Health and Wellbeing Advisory Committee guides Knox City Council on community safety, health and wellbeing issues.

It's made up of community members, Council officers and current Councillors.

Committee objectives

The Council Plan 2021 to 2025 leads all their actions and decisions.

The objective of the Committee is to:

  • contribute to the development and implementation of the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan
  • inform Council of stakeholder actions in health, safety and wellbeing
  • participate in the annual review of the Community and Council Plans
  • identify and provide advice regarding emergency health, safety and wellbeing priorities
  • facilitate action in the form of advocacy and organisational partnerships on agreed issues
  • investigate opportunities for Council action, in select priority areas in community settings with partner organisations.

Committee member requirements

A diverse group of local volunteers make up the Committee.

Committee members have interest and knowledge of community safety, health and wellbeing.

The Committee must include:

  • a maximum of 13 positions for Knox community safety, health and wellbeing organisation representatives
  • one representative from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH)
  • one representative from the Victoria Police
  • up to 2 Councillors appointed annually by Council.

Committee members are elected for 5 years.

Councillor members

Council appoints at least 2 Councillors to take part in the Committee.

They offer support in a range of areas, including delegated authority and advocacy.

Councillor members are elected for 1 year.

Council officers

The Knox City Council CEO nominates officers to provide advice and support to the Committee.

Meetings

Meetings take place 4 times a year. The Committee operates alongside a Terms of Reference.

The Committee will also take part in the six-monthly Group Meetings and the annual Advisory Committee Forum.
