Roadside trading permits
A roadside trading permit allows you to trade on council land in Knox. This includes:
- roadsides
- carparks
- footpaths
- naturestrips
- reserves.
This permit does not apply to roads that are controlled by VicRoads.
Permits can be obtained for:
- 1 day
- 1 to 7 days
- up to 1 month.
You must submit an application at least 21 working days before you intend to begin trading.
How to apply
To apply for a roadside trading permit, you will need to:
- download and complete the application form
- provide a sketch plan of the site including the location and a Melway reference number
- provide a copy of your Public Liability Insurance
- pay the permit fee.

- Mail to Knox City Council, 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South VIC 3152, or
- Submit it in person at the Knox Customer Service Counter located at our council offices at 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South VIC 3152.
Public Liability Insurance
To obtain a roadside trading permit, you must have Public Liability Insurance (of $20 million minimum) providing principal’s indemnity cover.
When supplying a copy of your Public Liability Insurance as part of your application, it must include:
- name of your insurer
- name of policy holder
- insurance expiry date
- policy number
- Knox City Council listed as an interested party.
Fees and charges
The fees for roadside trading permits are outlined in the table below.
These fees are current from 1 July 2024 until 30 June 2025.
