Election Period Policy

Information on Council's election period policy, which governs how Knox City Council interacts with the community during municipal elections.

The election period begins 32 days before voting day and ends when we declare the results.

During municipal elections, we:

  • remain impartial
  • use resources appropriately
  • provide fair and equal treatment to all candidates
  • continue essential services to the community.

About the policy

Our policy limits certain activities during the election period, such as:

  • making major policy decisions
  • publishing or distributing electoral matter
  • using council resources for election campaigning.

We've created governance rules for the election period. These rules follow Section 60 of the Local Government Act 2020.
