Environment Advisory Committee

The Environment Advisory Committee (EAC) informs and advises Council on environmental and sustainability matters, and Council’s role in improving the natural and built environment.

The committee is made up of a diverse group of local community members, Council officers and current Councillors. A total of 15 community members, including professional and industry representatives are part of the committee. 

Committee objectives

The Committee's objectives are to:

  • provide feedback and advice on environmental sustainability e.g. transportation and natural resource management
  • provide input on behalf of the community and community organisations
  • actively support Council’s consultation and advocacy initiatives to the broader community
  • establish working groups and sub committees as needed
  • monitor and review environmental and sustainability matters in Knox
  • advocate to Council for the benefit of the Knox environment
  • assist Council in determining priority activities and annual objectives

Committee member requirements

Committee members have a strong interest and knowledge of areas such as:

  • environmental management
  • natural resource management
  • sustainability
  • climate change
  • biodiversity
  • sustainable transport
  • waste and recycling

Length of engagement

Committee members are appointed for two years.

Councillor members

Council appoints at least one Councillor to take part in the Committee.

Current Committee Councillors

The current Councillors are:

  • Cr Kennett
  • Cr Lockwood

Council officers

The Knox City Council CEO nominates officers to provide advice and support to the Committee.

Meetings

The Committee meets six times a year, approximately every 8 weeks. The Committee operates alongside the EAC Terms of Reference and the Council Committees Policy.
