Our application process

Knox City Council has all kinds of jobs across all sorts of departments – and we'd love to have you as part of the team.

Boost your chance of working with us by applying the right way.

Apply now

We aim to recruit potential candidates as efficiently as possible. Below is the process that all candidates must go through to be employed at Knox City Council.

Online applications

Each role at Council has a position description. You can download the position description from the job listing.

The position description outlines the skills you will need to succeed in the role and the experience you need to bring.

To apply, please provide a resume and brief cover letter addressing the position description. Your application should reflect an awareness of Knox City Council's vision, purpose and values.

After you apply

If your application is successful, the hiring team will give you a phone call. They will discuss your application further or invite you to an interview.

An expert panel will conduct the interviews. The panel usually consists of:

  • the hiring manager
  • a team member
  • a key stakeholder

You will answer some behavioural questions to assess your suitability for the position.

We do our best to contact all applicants (either via email or by phone) within 3 weeks of the closing date.

Reference and pre-employment checks

If your application progresses past the interview stage, you will be asked to complete a number of checks.

Depending on the role you applied for, this could include any of the following:

  • Reference checks
  • ID check
  • Qualification check
  • Medical check
  • Functional assessment
  • Hearing assessment
  • Vision assessment
  • Police check
  • Working with children check
  • Psychometric assessment

Accepting your new role

Once you successfully complete your pre-employment checks, the hiring manager will be in contact to verbally offer you the role. They will also discuss the details of your commencement.

An email will then be sent to you from your candidate profile, including your Letter of Offer. You can review and formally accept your offer via your profile.

Once you have accepted your offer and completed the remaining paperwork online, you are ready to start your journey at Knox City Council.
