Election campaigns donation returns

Local election candidates in Knox must submit election campaign donation returns to Council's Chief Executive Officer.

Legal requirements for election campaign donations

The Local Government Act 2020 (the Act) states that all candidates in the election must submit an election campaign donation return to the Chief Executive Officer within 40 days following election day.

The Act states that only gifts equal to and above $500 received during the donation period by the candidate, or on behalf of the candidate to be used for, or in connection with the election campaign need to be declared.

Summary of election campaign donation returns

The Chief Executive Officer must ensure that a summary of each election campaign donation return received is available on Council's website.

The Act states that the summary must include the name of the candidate as well as the name of the person who made the gift and the total value of the gift received from that person.
