Proposed changes include a fresh format for ward meetings, ‘Councillor Listening posts’, introducing printing and uniform allowances and reviewing guidelines for professional development, seminars and conferences.

Model Councillor Code of Conduct

The Model Councillor Code of Conduct sets out the standards of conduct expected to be observed by councillors in the course of performing their duties.

Councillor Internal Resolution Procedure

Council must adopt an internal resolution procedure under section 140 of the Local Government Act 2020 and regulation 12A to manage alleged breaches of the Model Councillor Code of Conduct. 

This Procedure supports early, respectful, and direct communication between Councillors to resolve disputes and maintain effective working relationships.

This policy outlines the process and standards for the Mayor and councillors regarding:

  • claiming expenses
  • reporting
  • accountability.

Councillor Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • identify the overriding responsibility of Councillors to act honestly and not to make improper use of their position
  • clearly define the behaviour required of Councillors in relation to gifts and benefits
  • provide a transparent and accountable process with regard to declaring gifts and benefits that promotes public confidence in Knox City Council (Council) and its elected representatives.

Council Committees Policy

This Policy provides a consistent approach to the establishment of Council Committees on which there is Councillor representation. Participation by interested parties and affected stakeholders assists Council in making decisions that incorporate the interests and concerns of the community. 

This policy governs the operation of Advisory Committees, Specific Purpose Committees, Strategic Project Committees and Working Groups.

Generally, the purpose of Council Committees is to provide advice on the development, implementation, monitoring, review and/or evaluation of programs or activities specified in the Knox Community Plan and Council Plan.
