NAIDOC
NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
The National NAIDOC Committee makes decisions on national celebrations each year. It has representatives from most Australian states and territories.
NAIDOC began in the 1920s with the emergence of Aboriginal awareness groups. These groups helped build an understanding of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.
NAIDOC Week 2024
NAIDOC Week runs from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 July 2024.
NAIDOC Week calls Australians to support systemic change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Whether it’s seeking environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism — we must do it together.
