LGBTIQ+ community

Knox City Council supports and celebrates all our community members. We are all equal, regardless of culture, faith, gender identity, biological sex characteristics, sexual orientation and linguistic diversity.

Council commitment to the LGBTIQ+ community

We are committed to addressing and preventing discrimination affecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and or Questioning (LGBTIQ+) community members. Our aim is to ensure a safe and inclusive community for all.

We take part in several events that celebrate our LGBTIQ+ community, including:

  • Midsumma Festival
  • Pride March
  • IDAHOBIT Day.

Council's Rainbow Path

Knox is home to a permanent rainbow path. The path symbolizes our commitment to inclusion, diversity and support for the LGBTIQ+ community.

You can find the path outside the Eastgate South building, next to the Knox Civic Centre.

The path is 30m long and was painted by members of Council's LGBTIQ+ Working Group in November 2018.

All community members and visitors are welcome to visit the path. You can post photos and reference the path using the hashtag #KnoxRainbowPath

Rainbow ‘Path to Equality’

To celebrate IDAHOBIT 2019, Knox City Council unveiled a temporary installation on the Rainbow Path called ‘Path to Equality’.

It was a timeline of the progress of the LGBTIQ+ community towards social and legislative change in Victoria and Australia.
