Electronic waste is no longer accepted in any bin or landfill site across Victoria.
E-waste can contain hazardous and valuable materials which shouldn't end up in landfill.
Recycling e-waste
It's easy to recycle old and unwanted electronic items.
E-waste can be:
- put out with your booked hard waste service and our contractor will collect and recycle it. Eligible households can book a hard waste collection
- dropped off at the Knox Recycling & Waste Transfer Station. Fees may apply. (No charge for televisions and computer monitors)
- dropped off at an industry-run recycling drop-off point. (No charge for TVs and computers).

What is e-waste?
Electronic waste can be any of a whole range of items from work, home or even the garden shed.

Benefits of recycling e-waste
Electronic waste is growing up to three times faster than general municipal waste.
Recycling these items will:
- reduce landfill
- protect the environment
- encourage safe management of hazardous materials found in e-waste
- enable greater recovery of the valuable materials.
How e-waste is processed and reused
Once your e-waste has been collected or dropped off
- Items are carefully disassembled
- Remaining components are shredded. Data destruction also takes place at this stage
- Raw materials are processed and sorted
- Repurposed e-waste is sold to suppliers to make new products.
