Why accessible business is important
Improving access to your goods and services can help connect you with a larger part of the Knox community. This means those that you may be missing – customers who have a disability or other access requirements.
It also helps you to meet your legal responsibilities.
In Australia, the Disability Discrimination Act states that customers living with disability should have the same access to your goods and services as any other customer.
If your business is not accessible, a person with a disability can (and should) make a complaint of discrimination.
Improve your accessibility
We have developed two guides to help you improve accessibility, inclusivity and increase business.
Accessibility is good for your business
Accessibility is good for your business offers tips to improve access to your premises for people living with a disability.
Missed business
Missed Business is a joint initiative of Knox City Council and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.
It helps you maximise business with a broader range of people by making it easy for customers to:
- find you and your services
- get in to your premises
- move around your premises
- and make the most of your customer service.
