Tobacco-related complaints

Knox City Council’s Health Compliance Unit investigates complaints received from the community in relation to breaches of the Tobacco Act 1987.

Tobacco or smoking complaints

Knox City Council has a responsibility to enforce tobacco laws where breaches occur.

Examples of complaints investigated by Council include:

  • the sale of cigarettes or tobacco products to minors (persons under 18)
  • smoking in the workplace
  • smoking in an outdoor dining area
  • failure to display appropriate signage
  • inappropriate placement of tobacco products at tobacco retailing premises.
