About the Accessible Parking Permit (APP) scheme
For more information see VicRoads Accessible Parking Permits FAQ
Improvements include:
- temporary permits for 6, 12 or 24 months.
- increased permit length from 3 years to 5 years for individuals.
- a permanent disability classification, so reassessments are not required for future permit renewals.
- a new single and secure state-wide permit design that will be used throughout Victoria.
- the inclusion of occupational therapists, in addition to GPs, to assess eligibility for a permit.
How to apply for a new permit or renew a permit (individuals)
You will need to transition to the new APP scheme by applying for a new permit before your expiry date or December 2024, whichever date is first. Existing permits can be used until their expiry date.
There are two types of APP permits:
- Australian Disability Parking Permit - allows you to park in a disabled person parking bay AND park in an ordinary parking bay for twice the time limit specified
- Victorian Double Time Accessible Parking Permit – only allows you to park in an ordinary parking bay for twice the time indicated by any signage
There are three ways to apply
- if your application is successful, you’ll receive your permit in the post
Apply for a new permit or to renew a permit (organisations)
You need to apply online. Visit accessibleparking.vic.gov.au to start your application.
You’ll receive an application reference number via SMS and email.
If your application is successful, you can pick up the permit from Council. You may be asked to bring along supporting documentation when collecting your permit.
