Koolunga Native Reserve

Discover Koolunga Native Reserve in Ferntree Gully—a key site for biodiversity and recreation with walking tracks, native flora, and upcoming works to enhance nature and facilities.

About Koolunga

Koolunga Native Reserve is a 6-hectare reserve in Ferntree Gully on the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges on Wurundjeri Country. It is one of Knox’s top 10 ‘Sites of Biological Significance’.

Koolunga Native Reserve was once part of the Chandler Boronia and Daffodil Farm, which operated from 1898 to 1971. The reserve was acquired by Knox City Council in the early 1960s and opened to the public in 1967.

Over 60% of the reserve is remnant bushland, home to native plants and animals, including threatened species. The reserve also features an open watercourse flowing into Blind Creek and Dandenong Creek, as well as walking tracks and large open spaces.

These features make Koolunga a valuable space for nature and recreation that needs protection and preservation.

Location
