Dementia is increasing
In 2024, the National Centre for Monitoring Dementia estimates over 421,000 people live with dementia in Australia.
In Knox, there are 2,787 people living with dementia. This is estimated to increase by 148% over the next 35 years.
Dementia Friendly Communities Program
We have partnered with Dementia Australia to put in place a Dementia Friendly Communities Program in Knox.
The program aims to build awareness, understanding and acceptance of dementia, so people living with dementia can continue to participate and remain active in the community.
Support
There is support available for people living with dementia, as well as their loved ones and carers.

Dementia Advisory Group
As part of the Dementia Friendly Communities Program, we have established a Dementia Advisory Group. The group is made up of community and industry volunteers and meets every 4 to 8 weeks to:
- advise and support the development, implementation and monitoring of a Dementia Friendly Action Plan
- advise Council on emerging issues affecting people living with dementia
- better support people living with dementia in the community.
The group operates alongside a Terms of Reference.
