Bayswater Renewal Strategy

We are building a better Bayswater to help ensure it remains a desirable place to live, work and play.

Council adopted the Bayswater Renewal Strategy (August 2024) at the Council meeting on 26 August.

Read the Council minutes

The strategy was developed over a number of years with professional and technical research, and community engagement in 2020, 2022 and 2024 which helped inform priorities and initiatives identified in the strategy.

The Bayswater Renewal Strategy seeks to ensure the Bayswater Major Activity Centre continues to be a thriving hub for community life and business until 2040.

Key initiatives in the strategy include:

  • Increased housing supply and diversity
  • Improvements to support more people to walk, cycle, and use public transport
  • Greater tree canopy cover and high-quality public spaces
  • Supporting the community, local business and employment.

Officers will begin to implement of the actions including the preparation of planning controls and the commencement of a planning scheme amendment to implement the recommendations of the strategy into the Knox Planning Scheme. Once planning policy and controls are prepared, officers will seek authorisation from the Minister for Planning to prepare and exhibit a planning scheme amendment to the Knox Planning Scheme.
