National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Disability Leadership Program

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has changed Knox City Council's responsibilities. The NDIS now funds support for our community members living with a disability.

Council offers a range of initiatives in Knox that aim to make a difference to people with disability, their families and carers through our Disability Leadership Program.

About the National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is how support is provided to people with a permanent and significant disability in Australia.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is the agency responsible for implementing the NDIS.

Further information can be found on the NDIS website.

Council’s Disability Leadership Program

The program focuses on actions and initiatives such as:

  • running leadership programs for people with disabilities
  • supporting and promoting increased access to sport and recreation
  • peer support and capacity building for parents and carers through events and groups
  • working with early years services to enhance access and inclusion for children with disabilities or developmental delays, their families and carers
  • improving access to the Knox community and information.
